The Center for the Art of Translation is seeking a bilingual
Instructor & Curriculum Specialist (preferably fluent in Cantonese
and Mandarin) for our Poetry Inside Out creative writing program. The
Center is a non-profit organization promoting international literature
and translation through programs in the arts, education, and community
outreach. Poetry Inside Out brings the translation and composition of
poetry into Bay Area public schools in order to deepen cultural
literacy while promoting a wide range of reading, writing, and language
arts skills. Poetry Inside Out has worked with primarily
Spanish-speaking students in elementary and middle schools and is now
developing a Chinese-language curriculum.

The Instructor will work with children grades 3-8 as well as
teachers, parents and school administrators, in San Francisco and
elsewhere in the Bay Area. Instructor will teach in-school bilingual
workshops, create poetry and translation curriculum under supervision
of Artistic Director and Instructor & Curriculum Specialist, edit
student publications, and conduct outreach to schools and the
community. We're looking for someone with classroom and teaching
experience, as well as a comprehensive knowledge and familiarity with
classical and contemporary Chinese literature, particularly poetry;
translation experience or understanding of the translation process is
also important; someone who can inspire children, organize effectively,
work both independently and as part of a team, and is willing to work
in a variety of locations; someone who can act as ambassador of the
program and the Center.

Native-level fluency in Chinese required (both Cantonese and
Mandarin preferred). Excellent writing skills a must. Familiarity with
grant-writing a plus. Editing skills in Chinese and/or English helpful.
Willing and able to communicate by phone, email and in person.

This is a part-time permanent position. Job features flexible
self-designed schedule, a benefits stipend, superior vacation package
and paid holidays. San Francisco office is close to public
transportation. Job will include extensive training period including
observation of Poetry Inside Out classrooms.
