Two Visiting Lecturer Positions in Chinese at UC Davis 2011-12

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures of the University of California, Davis, invites applications for Two Visiting Lecturer of Chinese positions for 2011-12. Both appointments are made to fill temporary faculty absences and are non-renewable.

Position One will cover the entire 2011-12 academic year (September 19, 2011 – June 14, 2012). Primary duties are six Chinese courses for the three-quarter academic year (on average 2 courses each quarter). This is an 83% appointment for a 9 month service period. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position Two will cover the winter and spring quarters of the 2011-12 academic year (January 3, 2012 – June 14, 2012). Primary duties are four Chinese courses[CC1] for the two quarters (2 courses each quarter). This is an 83% [CC2] appointment for a 6 month service period. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Requirements include an MA or above in either Chinese linguistics, second-language acquisition or pedagogy, or other relevant fields, native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin and English, a demonstrable record of excellence in teaching Mandarin at both lower and upper levels. The department prefers candidates with college teaching experience in the U.S., good knowledge on current developments of second language pedagogy, and the ability to apply modern technology in classroom teaching.
