Assistant Professor in Chinese literature

Middlebury College Department of Chinese seeks an Assistant Professor
for a tenure-track position in Chinese literature, or culture, and
language, beginning September 2010.

Ph.D. in hand or expected by August 2010 in Chinese literature of any
period, or related field, plus expertise in Chinese language teaching 
and native or near-native fluency in Mandarin and English.

successful candidate will teach courses in Chinese literature or
culture in translation and also Chinese language courses at one or more
levels, from first to fourth, depending on our needs and the
qualifications of the candidate, and possibly including Classical
Chinese and advanced Chinese language courses that teach students to
read, analyze and discuss articles about complex social issues,
literature, and the language and culture of doing business in China.
The successful candidate will in some years also be expected to teach a
first year writing seminar and/or participate in a team-taught course
on world literature. Evidence of commitment to dynamic, effective
undergraduate teaching is crucial.
