Research Associate Position - Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language


The Confucius Institute at Michigan State
University seeks applications from qualified candidates to expand the
Institute’s programs in Chinese language and culture education.  Since
its establishment in 2006, CI-MSU has evolved into a major global R and
D center for Chinese language and culture education using technology. 
The Institute has developed a comprehensive set of programs to help
meet the needs of institutions and individuals interested in Chinese
language and culture education, including online high school courses,
online IB courses, a massively multiplayer online role playing game,
Chinese teacher recruitment and preparation, multimedia culture and
language materials for K-12 schools, and a bi-lingual bi-cultural
immersion program for Pre-K-5 students.

We are seeking two scholars as research associates.  The successful
candidates are expected to conduct research, teaching, and outreach in
Chinese language education and teacher preparation, with an emphasis on
the use of technology and curriculum development.

Minimum qualifications:  1) Earned doctoral degree; 2) Experiences
in teaching Chinese and or development Chinese curriculum materials; 3)
Record of scholarly activities in cross cultural/international
education; 4) Fluent in Chinese and English, both spoken and written;
5) Experiences with multiple education systems, particularly that of
China and the United States.

The appointments are full time, 12 month, annually renewal
appointments for up to 3 years, which are expected to begin, Fall
semester, 2009.  The appointments are in East Lansing, MI; however,
travel to China may be required to support research and teaching
